Spee-Dee® Introduces Low Profile 3500 Series Digitronic® Auger Filler



Sturtevant, Wis. — James P. Navin, President of Spee-Dee® Packaging Machinery, Inc., recently announced the debut of the Low Profile 3500 Series Digitronic® Auger Filler. As one of the most progressive manufacturers in the industry, Spee-Dee’s objective was to respond to the challenge of packagers with limited headroom on their filling lines. The innovative Low Profile Auger Filler is a full 10 inches shorter than the standard Spee-Dee Servo 3500 Digitronic Auger Filler, making it ideal for applications in which vertical space is at a premium. The Low Profile unit delivers the same efficient operation as the original 3500 Series Auger Filler, based on the superiority of servo technology. Included in the new configuration are a Standard Touch Screen Operator Interface, which is designed for optimum functionality and ease of use, and a Product Memory Menu in which all products are stored under names utilizing alphanumeric characters rather than confusing codes.

According to Timm Johnson, Spee-Dee Vice President, Sales/Marketing, the corporation’s constant efforts to assist customers in maximizing production and decreasing waste precipitated the new design. "We recognized that a 10 inch difference in height may be significant in the layout of a production line. Since equipment is updated much more often than buildings, re-configuring our Servo 3500 Digitronic Auger Filler provides a practical solution to those who want to add our Auger Filler to their line, but are limited in the amount of space available. It can be very costly to enlarge an existing production space, or elevate a low ceiling. In many plants, the space above the fillers is already in use for other equipment or accessories."

Johnson explained the new orientation of the Low Profile 3500 Series Auger Filler’s components. "Spee-Dee® designers rotated the motor to accommodate height sensitive installations," he commented. "The inverted servo motor is mounted on the rear of the head, and is joined with the auger shaft through the use of a pulley and timing belt."

"Each Spee-Dee Servo 3500 Digitronic® Auger Filler, no matter its configuration," Johnson continued, "offers dry product packagers the cost benefit of servo equipment: a dramatic decrease in both downtime and the expense of replacement parts as compared to clutch/brake machines.
