New Spee-Dee® Advanced Volumetric System Dramatically Increases Productivity



Sturtevant, Wis. — James P. Navin, President of Spee-Dee® Packaging Machinery, Inc., recently introduced the company's latest innovation, the Advanced Volumetric System. "Our new Spee-Dee Advanced Volumetric System is the first in the industry to control both weight and volume in dry filling," he revealed.

Demonstrations of the revolutionary filling system garnered rave reviews at its debut at Pack Expo in Chicago. Timm Johnson, Vice President, Sales/Marketing, noted that the unprecedented ability to fill dry products by volume and weight has been long awaited. "The Spee-Dee Advanced Volumetric System is another step in our continuing quest to enhance the productivity and profitability of our customers. In explaining the technology underlying the Advanced Volumetric System, Johnson underscored the efficiency gains customers realize from the Spee-Dee-Set Volume Adjustment Motor and in-line scale configuration. "Package weights gathered by the in-line scale are fed back to the PLC, averaged and compared to target weights." He continued, "The PLC is programmed to quickly and precisely regulate volume utilizing the servo volume adjustment, thereby preventing fills from falling below minimum as well as eliminating overfills. The results are greatly improved repeatability and a reduction in target weight. The most dramatic effect is the marked decrease in product giveaway. And that," Johnson stressed, "always translates to increased profitability."

The Spee-Dee® Advanced Volumetric System, which deletes the need for an expensive, high maintenance combination scale, includes a single Allen-Bradley PLC to control both the filler and scale. The design is elegant in its simplicity, and enables easy disassembly for clean up and quick product changeover.
