Spee-Dee® Premiers 3500 Series Conveyor System

Spee-Dee® Premiers 3500 Series Conveyor System

Sturtevant, Wis. — James P. Navin, President of Spee-Dee® Packaging Machinery, Inc., recently announced the introduction of the 3500 Series Conveyor System that economically fills dry products by net weight into rigid containers. Since filling by weight is more precise than filling by volume, the new system fulfills customers’ ongoing requirements for accuracy and repeatability.

The new 3500 Series Conveyor System consists of Spee-Dee’s standard 3500 Digitronic® Auger and a 10′ conveyor that advances the containers to the filling point. This dynamic system incorporates a load cell and the ‘bulk/dribble’ method to fill bottles, jars and vials. Up to 80% of the fill is completed by bulk delivery before the auger slows to dribble mode until target weight is achieved. In this arrangement, the auger control is set based on net weight, rather than a number of revolutions. After the initial unit is weighed, feedback to the auger allows in-flight adjustments, maintaining target weight throughout the remainder of the production run.

In describing this latest addition to the Spee-Dee Packaging family of servo driven equipment, Timm Johnson, Spee-Dee Vice President, Sales/Marketing, stated, “This innovative conveyor system offers our customers multiple ways to increase their profitability. Accuracy of +/-.25% makes this net weight configuration ideal for filling costly granular or powdered products into rigid containers. Because of this enhanced accuracy, waste, or product giveaway, is minimized and profits increase. Typical applications for the 3500 Series Conveyor System include pharmaceuticals and expensive food products that require precision filling.”

The conveyor itself has been designed for fast and easy disassembly to enable thorough cleaning. The track is removable, the rails may be quickly disconnected, and the end plates lift completely off. Once these parts are removed, a food grade stainless steel conveyor surface is revealed. Even the load cell is easily accessible.

Johnson summarized the Spee-Dee Packaging Machinery philosophy, explaining, “At the core of all our product development is the knowledge that we are partnering with our customers in their ongoing objective of improving profitability. By utilizing Spee-Dee Digitronic Auger equipment, dry product packagers are able to maximize profits with the technical superiority of a servo driven auger in their production lines,” he continued. “Companies minimize waste through increased accuracy and repeatability, and, at the same time, dramatically decrease downtime and lost revenue by eliminating more than 30 wear parts found in conventional clutch/brake systems. Spee-Dee’s intelligently designed products are exactly what America’s leading companies are looking for in today’s challenging economy,” he concluded.
